South and West Elevation

The South Elevation of the school is also quite familiar to all Danielites. The small tower with its stone spires, nestled into the south east corner is one of the school's most beautiful features. What is unfamiliar to present day students is the South West Wing. The arched entryway and parts of the lower hallway that it led into no longer exist. This corner of the school was torn down in the 1960s to make room for the new Math and Science wing. Gone is the entrance that led students of the 20s, 30s, 40s and 50s into the lower wing. The music room was on the left. The part of the lower hallway which housed the girls' and boys' gymnasium still stands but one "gym" is now used as a choir room and the other is used for an art room. In this drawing, you can get a good side view of the erection shed (furthest left, double storey, gabled roof, smoke stack is attached). The erection shed was used for shops ("erecting" or building things!) but is often mentioned in early yearbooks as the gathering place during school dances for refreshments and games.

The West Elevation will be the one that is most unfamiliar to the modern student. Again, due to budget cuts, much of this wing was not built. From this angle, you can again see the auditorium (left) and you can also see a single storey where shops such as "Electrical, Blacksmith & Tinsmith, Dynamo, Welding, Gas Engineering, Wireless, Ignition, and Workshop" rooms were to have been built. Immediately to the right of these rooms was the Erection Shed and smoke stack. Both of these were renovated in the 1970s and no longer appear the same. From this viewpoint, the windows of the boys' gymnasium (present day Choir Room) can be seen. At the right corner of the building was the original Music Room, although it had been planned as a "Pattern Shop".
