Here's how Daniel McIntyre looked when it opened its doors in spring of 1923. On the far left, you can see a glimpse of the west side of the school. This was a single storey structure which housed the music room and the girls' and boys' gymnasium. The smoke stack can be seen in the background. It was attached to the erection shed, a double storey, gabled structure that was used for shops. Looking back out towards the south field, you can see the rows of bicycle racks. By the number of racks, you might assume that a large percentage of the school's population used bicycles to get to school during Winnipeg's milder months. You should note that a middle south door to the field did not exist in 1923 (look to the left of the smoke stack, below the single window... no door!). It's a mystery how the flag in the south east tower was raised and lowered each day. Perhaps the custodian had to climb the outdoor vertical ladder (cannot be seen in this view) to the roof each day. If so, it would explain why the flag eventually was moved to a flagpole in the front of the school... much easier!! Please examine the floor plans below to see the original blueprint of the school as it was built.

This was the northwest corner of the school. The school was shaped like a "U". The inner courtyard was only enclosed by a fence, as seen in the right hand side of this picture which faces the Banning and Wellington intersection. The doorway pictured here is now the west exit of the quadrangle. |
| This is an "inside" of the east wing. The veranda opened off the medical room. To the left was only a single classroom up (Room 47) and down (Room 8). |

At the south end of the courtyard, there was a door by the principal's office. Notice the open arches and the students entering the building. This archway was later closed off when a stained glass war memorial by Leo Mol was built to honour the memory of Daniel McIntyre's veterans. |
| Here is the west side of the school. You are looking at the boys' gymnasium (lower level) and Room 62 (upper level). The portion of the school in front of the light coloured car and to its right would eventually be demolished to build the cafeteria and the math and science wing. |

The next two pictures are our latest "find". Joyce Winslow (Rheubottom) brought them with her to this year's reunion all the was from Texas!

This picture taken circa 1947 shows a side view of the erection shed. In 1923-1954 this was the farthest wall north on the west side of the building. |
| Here's the inside of the erection shed which of course was used for auto. Note the great jalopy they have to work on! |
